What is the PowerChart ?

PowerChart is an add-on tool for PowerBuilder starting version 12.0 to enhance the Chart capabilities of PowerBuilder. It is based on a new PowerBuilder component called the Chart.js datawindow that replaces the standard Powerbuilder graph datawindow by using the HTML 5 open source Chart.js graph engine (www.chartjs.org). It uses the PowerBuilder datawindow technology to get the data (from a database, a file or a web service) and a Microsoft Web browser control to display the HTML5 graphs. In order to make it intuitive to use for a PowerBuilder developer, it implements a chart.js datawindow painter to design the graphs with no coding.

Since it uses a Microsoft Windows built in control to display the graphs, the chart.js datawindow does not require any files to be installed on the client computer. It does not require any internet connection neither.

A chart.js datawindow is saved in the applications pbl as a standard Powerbuilder datawindow object. In order to differentiate them from standard Powerbuilder datawindows, Chart.js datawindows will be named with the prefix gr_ instead of d_ generally used for standard datawindows.
